The Community Care Program was implemented by the Forsyth County Animal Services
Department in 2004 to provide for additional adoption, rescue & foster care resources
for the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. Currently over 40 animal welfare groups participate
in the Community Care Program. The success of this program is due largely to the
efforts of our partner organizations and the sustained relationship of the department
with these groups.
Through this program the community itself becomes an extension of the animal shelter. Annually over 240 animals are cared for and eventually placed in new homes.
The objective of the Community Care Program is threefold:
The department reserves the right to select all animals for adoption, including specific breeds. An organization wishing to participate in the adoption program must submit a CCP application to the department of Animal Services. Once an application is approved animals may be released to the custody of the organization. The adoption policies and procedures of the applicant organization must be compatible with the adoption policies utilized by the department of Animal Services. Animals are not released to an organization that has not been approved by the department.
