The Almost Home program partners with veterinary hospitals and foster homes and
act as an extension of the shelter within the community, showcasing adoptable pets
to potential new owners.
The objective of the Almost Home Program is threefold:
The Animal Shelter staff determines the animals that qualify for placement in the Almost Home program. Animals with known medical problems may be released to an Almost Home Program organization if the medical problem can be treated and the Almost Home Program organization is willing and able to make the financial commitment needed for veterinary care. A Foster Custody Agreement is then completed and signed by representatives of the Almost Home Program partner and the Animal Services Department.
If someone is interested in the animal, the standard department adoption process is followed with Animal Services staff. If the animal requires spaying or neutering, An Almost Home Program veterinary partner may alter the animal at their clinic and provide the Animal Services Department with records of such. Fees for the procedure are those established by the Animal Services Department.
