Smoking and Babies Just Don't Mix
Smoke-Free Restaurants

As of January 2, 2010 this website will be under going changes due to the passing of House Bill 2: North Carolina’s Smoke-free Restaurants and Bars Law. For more information please visit www.smokefree.nc.gov.

Why the focus on restaurants? The Coalition is concerned about any public place where pregnant women and infants can be exposed to cigarette smoke. We are currently focusing on restaurants because:

  • Breathing in second-hand smoke is harmful to pregnant women and infants.
  • Second hand smoke can actually cause preterm labor. Premature birth is the leading cause of infant death in our community.
  • Second-hand smoke in restaurants that still have a smoking section hurts pregnant workers as well as customers.
